These pieces were a result of the Nazi occupation of Italy and Panerai was compelled to produce a series of watches to meet the need for a waterproof and legible watch for the specialized German.
On September 1, 2018, the German auction house Eppli will be auctioning a never-before-seen Panerai 3646 with sought-after "Kampfschwimmer" (combat swimmer) engravings .
It is one of the exceedingly rare survivors of the celebrated ref. 3646 Type D model belonging to a "Kampfschwimmer", "combat swimmer", Germany's commando frogmen.
