I have no chipping on YSL logo and I also have the credit card slip with black hardware and I definitely don't baby it and it has zero wear. However I know a friend of mine . It has happened, my Large College bag black on black (hardware) has chipped! I bought the bag in October 2016 but have not used her much as I am lucky to. It has happened, my Large College bag black on black (hardware) has chipped! I bought the bag in October 2016 but have not used her much as I am lucky to. I had a black on black bag from a “contemporary designer” and the black hardware chipped big time but I was ok with it since I loved the look and it was an inexpensive bag. Not sure how I’d feel about a 00+ bag chipping. I have the all-black College in matte lambskin; going 3 years strong with some pretty outrageous abuse (hiking, boating, etc.). No chips. However, I have seen some pre-loved YSLs with chipping, so I wonder if there's variability between years/models.
Ex YSL employee here 👋 the enamel on black hardware comes off very easily and will need to be fixed every so often. I’ve had my all black Lou Lou for 6 months (use it sporadically) and the enamel is chipped and it annoys me so I haven’t been using it. If you got it second-hand, you could reach out to YSL and ask about repair services, though I believe you need to be in-store to do that. Unfortunately, black hardware is prone to chipping. As cool as it looks, I always avoid it and stick with gold or silver hardware.

I have the YSL West Hollywood bag with black hardware. I used it daily for about 8 months with no chipping. I didn’t baby the bag at all. I bought it a couple of years ago so I’m not sure about current black hardware quality but mine has held up well. I really love the look of the all-black, but in my research it’s been an absolute mixed bag of it holding up/being durable vs chipping like mad.
