Designed to perform many different calculations, including: Tachometer; Speedometer for Cycllists; Telemeter; Pulsimeter; Metronome; Production Counter; Meteorology; Counting Hours . 1940's Breitling Chronomat ref 769. There is a red 0 - 100 scale near the middle of the dial which can be used for reading 1/100ths of a minute which facilitates computations using the slide-rule. The Swiss cross and the number 217012 on the dial refer to the Swiss government patent that was granted in 1940.
The second question concerns the arrow seen on most 769 dials between the 5 and 6 o'clock positions. These appears on most of the dials it seems, but in different arrow styles and colours, but I've seen a few pictures of black and silver dials without this arrow at all.

It was serviced a lThis Chronomat is extremely legible, and highly useful if you know how to operate a slide rule. Its condition is spectacular for a 70-year-old watch, but it has a few minor age marks on the dial. The steel case is well preserved with very few scratches and appears to be unpolished.This particular watch’s design closely resembles that of an early Breitling Navitimer, evident in its distinctive serrated ring and deep blue/brown dial with rings of measurement—a hallmark of Breitling pilot’s watches.
